gave 5 stars!!
I had my hair cut with Mariel a couple of weeks ago and I really like it. Mariel is fantastic- she was sweet and very attentive and listened carefully to all of my neurotic complaints about my hair. I have long, fine hair that has been growing out the last few years, so I had some ratty layers from old haircuts. She gave me a great cut that fixed the ugly layers and it’s still looking good. While I was at the salon I noticed that the other stylists and the lady at the front desk were down to earth and nice to people. I think sometimes you get attitude at salons, so it was refreshing to find that Fringe didn’t have any of that negative element. The only downside might be that the salon is pretty small, so I felt a bit on stage as I griped about my hair to Mariel. Overall, a great experience and I will be back to see Mariel!

5 stars!!
Mariel. She’s sweet, she’s hot, and she turned me into Heidi Klum in under one hour! What more do you need?
update: 5 stars! I totally trust Mariel with hair cuts after a couple of visits! She has new ideas for styles for me (love that), her cuts make my hair easy to manage daily, and I get tons of compliments on my hair! She cares!
10/13/2010 1 Check-in Here
I went here in desperate need of a haircut. I’m always in desperate need of a haircut. Because of this, I’m typically uncomfortable when I go to salons. I walk in looking like a slightly less attractive Sebastian Bach and it just feels like everyone knows I only cut my hair three times per year.
But I love Fringe. I went there because my usual place couldn’t be bothered to answer their phone the six times I called (hello Fatal Attraction) and Fringe was only a few yards away so I called them. Someone politely answered the phone, thanked me for calling and was able to accommodate me within 20 minutes. Already off to a good start.
Mariel was my stylist and she was wonderful. She helped me figure out what I should do and ended up giving me a fabulous cut. Bonus – she watches Teen Mom (sorry for outing you, Mariel) so we were able to talk about that. I absolutely loved my hair – I was beaming. Typically, I’m pretty content with my haircuts but HATE the way it’s styled the day of. I always get stylists who want to add a bunch of product and flip out my layers so I look like The Liberty Bell when I walk out.
Mariel took the time to blow-dry/style my hair but made it sleek and straight. It’s the first time I haven’t immediately put my hair up in a ponytail the moment I leave.
Go to Fringe, ask for Mariel, look awesome.

For over three years I dyed my hair jet black over and over again, and had 22 inch hair extensions. This can cause a HUGE problem when it comes to trying to change your hair style.
I read the reviews about Fringe just on a whim, and decided to give it a try. I can not express how lucky I was to land in the talented hands on Marial (sorry if I spelled this wrong!). She spent nearly 6 hours with me, cutting, stripping, highlighting, washing, washing, washing, cutting, coloring and more… She kept me completely entertained the entire time and I walked away feeling like a million dollars.
I recently went back for a second visit and basically repeated the same amazing experience once again. Marial’s cut had grown out so nicely that I didn’t even need a trim. We worked on getting a bit more of the black out and she put in a new shade of highlights. It just keeps getting better!
I would recommend this place to anyone in the Bay Area. If you don’t live down here near Burlingame believe me it’s worth the drive. There is plenty of parking here and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of work these ladies do. Both of the owners are very welcoming and were walking around during both my visits offering help and suggestions.
Overall two thumbs way up!

I love this little salon! But especially Mariel! She is my new hair guru. I totally trust her with my haircut/color and that does not come easy. I am a very loyal customer and I needed a new hair stylist and found Fringe and Mariel via Yelp. Best decision ever!! And Mariel is great in working with my work schedule and stays late for me and that is priceless. And also their receptionist is great and that is a position where people come and go and Maria (the receptionist) knows her stylists and her customers. Thanks Fringe!!!

Overall, Fringe is the best salon I’ve found on the peninsula and S. Bay, and over the last 7 years, I’ve tried dozens in Fremont, Pleasanton, San Jose on up to Burlingame. So the place is small and unassuming, but no matter. What they lack in razzle-dazzle, who-the hell-needs-it snobbery, they more than make up for in super haircuts, wow-factor customer service from the very nice receptionist, some charming architectural features, effective products, and a pleasant vibe to welcome you.
The hairstylist MARIEL is a huge part of what makes this place outstanding. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE else in the history of getting my hair cut and styled for over 30 years in 4 states, has the expert quality and flair that Mariel has!!! I am extremely particular about how my hair is cut and styled, and, (make note) how it grows out and retains the style in the weeks after. Especially if your hair is fine/thin like mine, with a little waviness, and if you rather enjoy and deserve getting top care from a stylist whose education and winsome personality shine on through, you have to choose mademoiselle Mariel. She has made my hair look terrific each time I’ve been here since January. Skills, baby, skills! Now, if only I could duplicate this at home! I will die a slow death if I have to move out of the area and find another hairstylist, ’cause there is no replacement for Mariel. My boyfriend even raved about my first haircut here, an avant-garde concoction, and he is not the type to rave on about such things; he’s busy noticing other workings of the world.
The haircut prices are quite reasonable, and the salon hours work great with a demanding schedule. I always find metered parking, but I got a ticket once for not putting in enough quarters on a post-haircut shopping binge in this adorable retail area.
Yay, Fringe! Bravissimo, Mariel!!

I got my hair colored and styled by Mariel last week and I was very pleased with my whole experience at Plum studios. I have curly hair and shes helped me tremendously with working with my hair and what products to use and how to blow it out.
Thanks Mariel

Die hard Toni and Guy fan but when i moved to sf found out they don t have a location. I was used to that experience and was looking for a hair stylist who would give me a makeover and Mariel is the ‘it’ girl!! Absolutely loved what she did and would certainly recommend her.
Looked up the salon on yelp and had a great experience!
The only reason i did nt score it a 5-star was the salon itself needs a revamping.. the staff very friendly and stylist (Mariel ) was really good!!

Mariel is great! I’ve been getting my hair colored and cut by Mariel for about 2 years. I always leave her chair happy. I have referred many friends and they have all become clients of hers.
